No, Stress Paste does not sedate your horse. Stress Paste works by supporting the functions affected most by stressful events. By supporting gut health, hydration, and muscle recovery, Stress Paste helps horses stay comfortable, focused, and calm without dulling their responses.
Stress Paste provides buffering support from magnesium hydroxide and pectin for approximately 4 hours. If you give two doses within 24 hours, the remaining ingredients will continue working throughout that period. For optimal long-term hindgut support, we recommend using DigestiveHP alongside Stress Paste.
Stress Paste is best used multiple times to help manage stress and maintain hydration before, during, and after competition.
Here’s the recommended protocol:
- 1 full serve the night before competition – to prepare the gut and support hydration.
- 1 full serve 30 minutes to an hour before the competitive event - to help maintain focus and gut comfort.
- 1 full serve the night after the competition - to support recovery and appetite
- For multi-day events, you can provide ½ serve 2-3 times daily and can be timed 30 to 60 minutes before competition timing.
- Finally, if your horse isn’t eating or drinking – give a full serve to encourage appetite and hydration.

Yes, you can use more than one tube of StressPaste per day in situations like prolonged travel, competition, illness, ulcer treatment, extreme weather, or endurance events. In extreme cases, use up to 1.5 tubes per day for horses under 400kg and up to 3 tubes per day for horses weighing above 400kg. (This serving rate should not exceed two consecutive weeks.)
Stress Paste can be used daily during periods of acute stress, such as travel, competition, illness, or recovery. If used for more than five days, it’s best to taper off gradually by reducing to a half dose for two days, then a quarter dose for four days to allow your horse’s natural vitamin C production to normalize.
